Our Mission

CoDEx strives to facilitate activities that will:

• Strengthen the diagnostic excellence field
• Drive measurable improvements in diagnostic outcomes in the US
• Ensure the durability of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s $100M+ investments made through their Diagnostic Excellence Initiative (2016-2023)

Our Programs (in development)

Learning Hub
The center will identify and facilitate progress in rapidly evolving areas likely to influence the practice of diagnosis, such as safely applying AI to diagnosis. We will also work to expand the field by garnering new funding to support diagnostic excellence research and building awareness and driving advocacy on the topic with national leaders across healthcare.

Engagement Hub
CoDEx will leverage multiple inputs (e.g., steering committees, environmental scans, grantee reports) and use a variety of approaches to synthesize and disseminate major advancements in diagnostic excellence research and clinical practice.

We will also function as a convener and network-builder for the field, hosting events to bring together Moore Foundation-funded grantees, diagnostic excellence fellows and alumni, and national stakeholders that control influential levers to advance diagnostic excellence (e.g., research funders, accreditors, quality measurement organizations, insurers, providers).

Action Incubator
The center will serve as an incubator — launching several "action roundtables" that target areas ripe for diagnostic improvement, set achievable benchmarks, and drive measurable improvements across groups of committed stakeholders. Through these action roundtables, CoDEx will build knowledge and tools required by the field, support the people needed to implement these tools, and develop measurable improvement outcomes for patients.
