About the Event

Diagnostic error continues to be one of the most common medical malpractice/patient safety issues. The impact on patients spans from frustrating to debilitating, to fatal. There are multiple factors that create circumstances where delayed or failed diagnoses are more prevalent, and there are tools and techniques that clinicians may adopt that will reduce the frequency and severity of error as a result of diagnostic error or delays.

At the end of this activity, participants will:

  • Have awareness of situations where diagnostic error may occur and the impact it has on patients.

  • Be prepared to recognize and mitigate for risk factors that contribute to diagnostic error or delay.

  • Take steps to mitigate for risk factors in individual practice that may result in diagnostic error and apply tools and techniques to support themselves and their patients.
