About the Event

Our last series event of the year featured Christina Silcox, PhD, research director of digital health and adjunct assistant professor at the Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy. She explored the transformative policy changes and trends that defined AI in healthcare throughout 2024. This deep dive unpacked the pivotal roles and regulatory actions of federal agencies overseeing AI diagnostic tools, shedding light on how these interventions are shaping the industry.

She also covered the pressing issues dominating lawmakers’ agendas—transparency, equity, and innovation—and provided insights into how state-level initiatives are influencing the rapidly evolving AI healthcare landscape. Finally, Dr. Silcox discussed the trends poised to shape the future of AI health policy and their potential impact moving forward.

He first joined UCSF as a fellow in hospital medicine and clinical research, then went on to become a faculty member in the Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF Health, where he held multiple leadership positions. As director of CoDEx, Sumant leads the center’s strategic planning and the execution of its work to champion diagnostic excellence research and build awareness of and engagement within the field.

Christina works on policy solutions to advance innovation in health and health care and improve regulation, reimbursement, and long-term evaluation of medical products. Her portfolio covers multiple areas in AI and digital health policy, including policies related to the regulation, governance, and payment of AI-enabled health tools and other digital health tools.
