The Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the Safety of Patients
As the pace of interest in and development of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) accelerates, there’s a mix of hope and skepticism from health care providers and from patients. While much discussion has focused on operational and clinical applications for genAI, less attention and guidance has focused on how these applications might improve or threaten patient safety, or to inform considerations and practices to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients and the workforce.
With the generous support of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the IHI Lucian Leape Institute (LLI) chartered a rapid-cycle innovation wave and expert panel to identify the opportunities and recommendations for genAI through the lens of safety. In this provocative and timely webinar, world renown safety experts will share insights and recommendations from the recent LLI report on patient safety and AI, including an analysis of the benefits, risks, and monitoring and risk mitigation for three clinical genAI applications, including clinical decision support, patient-facing chatbots, and documentation support.
